Students, staff and alumni from across the University of Sydney will take part in VIVID Sydney from 26 May to 17 June 2017. The 23-day festival of light, music and ideas will showcase talent from a range of disciplines, including science, design and music, highlighting the exceptional breadth and diversity of our University community.

The Sydney Conservatorium of Music will present an electric festival program of mind-bending sounds, music and multi-sensory performances, to complement their new Bachelor of Music degree.

Vivid New Music at the Con 2017 is a festival of genre-bending new music produced by the best of the Sydney Conservatorium of Music’s home-grown and guest composersjazz and contemporary musicians over the three weeks of Vivid Sydney 2017.

From classical to Chinese instruments, masses of electric guitars to newly invented digital instruments, Sydney’s iconic music castle will come alive with a vibrant program of performances and installations. Highlights will include: jazz viola da gambas with Elysian Fields (27 May); electric strings with Veronique Serret and Michaela Davies (29 May); the latest in classical music from the SCM Modern Music Ensemble (1 June); new music on traditional instruments with the SCM Chinese Music Ensemble (2 June); US-base environmental sound-arts collective EcoSono (3 June); a full-blown international jazz festival (4 June); an immersive audio-visual experience ‘The Hour’ by Alon Ilsar (10 June); NZ singer-songwriter Bic Runga (11 June); and a stack of creative and original new work from the fresh young talent at the Con (Sat 3, 10 and 17 June). Nestled at the edge of the new light walk in the Royal Botanic Gardens, drop in to one of Sydney’s best music venues and engage your ears with an eclectic smorgasbord of sounds. More details below.
