How to Apply

Undergraduate Domestic Students

All local applicants, including international students completing their secondary schooling in Australia in the current year, need to make an application to the Universities Admissions Centre (UAC) nominating a Sydney Conservatorium of Music course as, at least, one of their UAC preferences.

For UAC purposes, a local applicant is:

  • an Australian citizen or holder of a visa having permanent residency in Australia at any educational level, i.e. a year 12 student in Australia in any year, an Australian tertiary student or a mature age applicant
  • a New Zealand citizen
  • an international student (i.e. holder of an international student visa) completing  secondary schooling in Australia in the year prior to commencing at university

Application Process

Step 1: Apply through the UAC website

Step 2: After you have completed Step 1, you must submit an online application directly to the Sydney Conservatorium so an Audition and/Interview can be arranged. A non-refundable $50 administration fee is charged for every audition/interview application in a different instrumental/vocal unit.

Step 3: Pay Audition/Interview Administration Fee online

It is important that you submit a UAC application first, followed by an Application for an Audition/Interview, and pay the appropriate Administrative fee otherwise we cannot scheduled you for an Audition and/or Interview.

UAC on-time audition/interview applications must be received by the closing date of 26 September 2014.

Late Applications

The SCM may not always be able to accommodate late applications for auditions/interviews. Late request for  auditions/interviews may only be considered for applications lodged to UAC by end of October.

Audition DVD Recording

Where possible, you should attend a live audition at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music. If you are an interstate or international applicant and cannot attend in person, you may submit a video recorded audition through the application process. The recordings must be no older than six weeks at the time you send them to us. Audio-only recordings will not be accepted. Please refer to the Audition Requirements page for details of the works you should include in your recording.

The DVD must be received by our Student Administration office no later than 31 October 2014.

The DVD recording must be continuous, please do not stop and re-start the recording. The DVD must be clearly labelled with the your name, instrument/principal study and your UAC application number. The recording must also be accompanied by a statement signed and dated by yourself and either the teacher/principal verifying that it is you performing on the DVD. Please ensure the audio and visual are very clear.

Claiming Audition Submissions

Applicants who wish to claim their audition DVD or written submissions for composition and musicology may collect it from the Student Administration Office, Sydney Conservatorium of Music, from February until 31 March of the following year. Any material not collected within this period will be discarded.

Step 2: Audition performances can be submitted by DVD or uploaded to YouTube. Please note CD format will not be assessed.

If you are posting a DVD, please despatch your DVD to the following address:

If you are submitting a DVD, you will to need label clearly the following: your full name, date of birth, application number and course applied.

Am I an International Student?

You are considered to be an international student if you are NOT: an Australian citizen; a New Zealand citizen; a dual citizen of any country with Australia or New Zealand; or a permanent resident of Australia. If you meet any of these criteria, you are considered to be a domestic student.

Scholarships

In order to be considered for one of the Conservatorium’s international scholarships students must submit all application material, including an audition and IELTS results, by 30 May (for semester 2 commencement) or 31 October (for semester 1 commencement). Applications received after these closing dates will not be considered for scholarships.
