In order to assess and rank applicants, the Conservatorium requires all applicants to complete an audition and/or interview as part of the application process. Applicants who fail to attend the required auditions and/or interviews will not be considered for an offer of a place.
Applicants who have successfully completed at least one year of principal study at a university, may audition for entry into second year in principal study. Candidates wishing to audition for advanced standing should contact the relevant chair of unit to discuss audition requirements.
Please see the appropriate page for your area from the list below to obtain specific audition requirements:
Undergraduate applicants are required to provide their own Accompanist. If applicants require assistance, the Sydney Conservatorium of Music can assist in providing a list of recommended Accompanists. Arrangements and costs is solely between the applicant and their chosen Accompanist. Please email: firstname.lastname@example.org for details.
Jazz applicants must use the Conservatorium accompaniment which is provided free of charge as part of their audition.
Postgraduate Voice (Classical) applicants can either arrange for their own accompanist or use the Conservatorium accompaniment during the live audition period. Applicants using the Conservatorium accompanist will need to pay a fee of $50 AUD on the day of the audition. Please note if you intend to use an accompanist provided by the Conservatorium, no practice time is available with the accompanist. Ensure you bring your Music to the audition.
Postgraduate Voice (Opera) applicants will be required to arrange their own accompanist.
No recorded accompaniment is permitted.
Music Skills Test
All undergraduate Classical and Contemporary Music Practice applicants must sit a Music Skills Test during the audition period, preferably on the day of their audition. If applicants are auditioning for multiple classical vocal/instrument or contemporary music, only one Music Skills Test is required.
All undergraduate Jazz applicants must sit a Jazz Aptitude Test on their audition day.
If applicants are auditioning for both Classical/Contemporary and Jazz, applicants will be required to sit both tests.
