Boasting world-class performance spaces nestled in the stunning Royal Botanic Gardens, the Sydney Conservatorium of Music throws open its doors to an all-day jazz festival featuring over 100 artists in 26 events over 5 venues.

The Sydney Conservatorium International Jazz Festival showcases the crème of the Australian jazz scene in collaborative performances with international artists, new work premieres and workshops and lectures that feature an outstanding array of artists and music educators.

The Festival will feature the debut of the Australian National Jazz Orchestra with Mat Jodrell and Roger Manins, Sydney Womens Jazz Collective plus guest artist Sandy Evans, Phil Slater’s new quintet, Hieronymus Trio led by Emma Stephenson, Jo Lawry Quartet, and performances from Armenia pianist Tigran Hamasyan, American saxophonists Will Vinson and Tal Cohen Quintet featuring Greg Osby and dynamic American drummer Jim Black.

The Festival will take place on Sunday 4 June at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music. Events start from 9am.

Vivid New Music at the Con 2017 is a festival of genre-bending new music produced by the best of the Sydney Conservatorium of Music’s home-grown and guest composersjazz and contemporary musicians over the three weeks of Vivid Sydney 2017.

From classical to Chinese instruments, masses of electric guitars to newly invented digital instruments, Sydney’s iconic music castle will come alive with a vibrant program of performances and installations. Highlights will include: jazz viola da gambas with Elysian Fields (27 May); electric strings with Veronique Serret and Michaela Davies (29 May); the latest in classical music from the SCM Modern Music Ensemble (1 June); new music on traditional instruments with the SCM Chinese Music Ensemble (2 June); US-base environmental sound-arts collective EcoSono (3 June); a full-blown international jazz festival (4 June); an immersive audio-visual experience ‘The Hour’ by Alon Ilsar (10 June); NZ singer-songwriter Bic Runga (11 June); and a stack of creative and original new work from the fresh young talent at the Con (Sat 3, 10 and 17 June).
