St Stephen's College Preparatory School Sydney Music Tour Concert
Sunday 30 July 2017
Level 1, Sydney Conservatorium of Music
Music is a vital part of extra-curricular program at St Stephen’s College Preparatory School. The school implemented a ‘One student – One instrument’ program about 30 years ago and the school orchestra was established in 1986, which made St Stephen’s the avant-garde of primary schools in this area in Hong Kong.
Excellent facilities that include special rooms, classrooms, rehearsal rooms and hall are provided for rehearsals and instrument lessons. In the past years, the orchestra has achieved very outstanding results in the inter-school competitions in Hong Kong. It was the champion and gold prize winner in the Primary School Symphony Orchestra Competition in the Hong Kong Schools Music Festival and Hong Kong Youth Music Interflows respectively.
The orchestra also toured Vienna, the UK, Japan and Beijing under the guidance and collaboration of Professor Ernst Smole, former Director of the Johannes Brahms Music School, Professor Colin Touchin, former Director of Music of University of Warwick, and Beijing Central Conservatory of Music. In 2014, the Orchestra hosted a two-hour open-to-public concert at one of the world’s top five prestigious concert halls, Vienna Musikverein. The orchestra was also the first Hong Kong Primary School Orchestra being hosted by Musikverein to present a full-program concert there.
