Musica Viva Festival 2017 - Concert 4

Saturday 22 April 2017

Sydney Conservatorium of Music

1 Conservatorium Road, Sydney

Proudly supported by the Sydney Conservatorium of Music, experience four full days of the Musica Viva Festival.

Inspiration comes in many different guises, brought together for this unique program. Vasks’ affecting music is infused with the folk flavours of his native Latvia and tinged with local birdsong, amid traces of the struggle for national independence. Brahms wrote his third violin sonata as a virtuoso showcase for his dear colleague Joseph Joachim. Brenton Broadstock’s lyrical, haunting piece arises from one of his own poems of the same intriguing name: a song without words. Ross Edwards also plays with links between texts and notes in a multi-faceted, uplifting world premiere for the unusual combination of saxophone and string quartet.
