Sydney Conservatorium of Music offers you the opportunity to attend a masterclass with acclaimed pianist, Stephen Savage. You are invited to witness him working with talented students, workshopping techniques to perfect their craft in an ‘open lesson’ format.
Dr Stephen Savage has a long association with the Conservatorium’s teaching program and continues to welcome its leading students to his class at Manchester’s Royal Northern College of Music. He is also an acknowledged leading solo artist with acclaimed CDs to his credit. He has appeared with most of Australia’s leading orchestras and gave the first performance here of the Lutoslawski Concerto with the Sydney Symphony Orchestra and Ronald Zollman. As a teacher he has held positions as Professor at London’s Royal College of Music and Head of Piano at the Queensland Conservatorium and he founded the original piano programme at ANAM. As conductor he has introduced young professional to much of the most important ensemble music of our time. His 2008 Griffith University PhD thesis “Behind the Text, Beyond the Sound” gives a personal view of the nature of creativity in performance.
