Sydney Conservatorium of Music offers you the opportunity to attend a masterclass with acclaimed pianist Helen Krizos . You are invited to witness her working with talented students, workshopping techniques to perfect their craft in an ‘open lesson’ format.

Australian born Helen Krizos has lived in the UK for many years where she has established herself in a successful performing and teaching career.

As a performer Helen played in a piano duo which gained recognition as one of the foremost ensembles in the UK.  They made regular broadcasts on BBC Radio 3, appearances on BBC television, and performed with major orchestras including the Philharmonia, English Chamber Orchestra, BBC Philharmonic and Concert Orchestras.  The duo made highly acclaimed recordings of Schubert and Dvorak on the Hyperion label. Tours abroad included playing with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra, Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra, giving a live performance at the Sydney Opera House and recording for the ABC.  More recently Helen has enjoyed extending her musical talent to work with film director  Terrence Davies  on two of his award winning films ‘Of Time and the City ‘ and ‘A Quiet Passion’.

For many years Helen has been Deputy Head of the Keyboard department at the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester, one of the four Royal schools in Britain.  This prestigious role has led to her enjoying working with many talented young people.

Success as a teacher has led to Helen’s students achieving top prizes in national and international competitions, and recording contracts.  Recent successes of her students include:  winner of the piano category of the BBC Young Musician of the Year, 2016, the most prestigious televised competition for young people under the age of 19 years; piano winner of the Royal Overseas League Competition held in London, and third prize winner in the Epinal International Piano Competition, March 2017.

Helen has given masterclasses in UK, Australia, New Zealand, Spain, Norway, Germany, Austria and the Far East.  She has adjudicated extensively in the UK and abroad.

Helen is married and has two children, Ben a singer- songwriter and pop musician who lives in London and Melissa a psychologist who has recently moved to Sydney.
