Masterclass with Andrew West
Wednesday 17 August 2016
Recital Hall West
Level 1, Sydney Conservatorium of Music
Sydney Conservatorium of Music offers you the opportunity to attend a masterclass with acclaimed accompanist, Andrew West. You are invited to witness him working with talented students, workshopping techniques to perfect their craft in an ‘open lesson’ format.
Andrew West is professor of accompaniment and chamber music at the Royal Academy of Music, London. Recent concerts at the Australian Festival of Chamber Music included Schubert’s Winterreise with British baritone Roderick Williams, and a recital of Australian repertoire with flautist Bridget Bolliger; they give further performances at the Utzon Room, Sydney Opera House on Sunday 20 August. Andrew is Artistic Director of the Nuremberg Chamber Music Festival. Now in its 15th year, this festival features British composers unfamiliar to the local audiences, alongside traditional classics.
Andrew has a particular interest in song-accompaniment, and the illumination of text by music. His principal duo partners include tenors Mark Padmore, with whom he performs at the Library of Congress, Washington DC, in October; and Robert Murray, whom he accompanies on their recently released recording of Schubert’s Die Schoene Muellerin.
