About Music Education: Your Aural is Better Than You Think
Monday 5 June 2017
Recital Hall West
Level 1, Sydney Conservatorium of Music Sydney NSW
Most people regard their aural skills as poor and herald absolute pitch as a sign of musical giftedness. This session explores – then debunks – both views. The audience will participate in a short and entertaining aural test (one that was taken online last year by 2000 participants) and, through being able to experience for themselves how far their aural capabilities extend, will realise that most of the time we highly underestimate our own skills.
Samantha Coates is a Sydney-based pianist with three decades of experience in both private and group tuition. She is also the author and publisher of BlitzBooks, a music education series that has brought fun and laughter to the areas of music theory and sight reading. She has had extensive experience as a solo performer, accompanist and lecturer, and is in demand as a speaker on a wide range of pedagogical topics both in Australia and overseas.
Join us for refreshments and to continue the conversation afterwards.
