One of the world’s most prestigious piano competitions

One of the most anticipated classical musical events, the Sydney International Piano Competition takes place once every four years. It is a major international competition showcasing outstanding pianists from all over the world, and is invested in helping young pianists develop their careers as professional concert artists.

Founded by Clare Dan OBE OA, Robert Tobias OAM and Rex Hobcroft AM in 1977, the Competition became a member of the Geneva based World Federation of International Music Competitions in 1978, the first Australian competition to be accepted as a member.

Join the excitement of a thrilling competition. 32 competitors will deliver the performances of their lives which will define careers, and finally one competitor will be crowned the winner.

The Preliminary Rounds of the Competition and the Semi-Finals take place at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music from 6 to 16 July, and the Finals at the Sydney Opera House from 19 to 23 July.
